Global warming and depletion of our natural resources are having an alarming affect on our environment and our natural habitats. In the U.S., buildings are responsible for almost half (48%) of all greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions annually; globally the percentage is even greater. We as design professionals need to do our part in promoting buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. I believe that by collaborating with the key players in this sector, we can promote energy efficient and environmentally responsible building designs that will result in the reduction of these greenhouse gas emissions and prevent depletion of our natural resources.
As charge of the membership committee for the Long Beach Chapter, I would collaborate with key personnel in the various organizations and educational sectors in Long Beach to promote the mission of USGBC in the local community, promote/increase the Chapter’s individual membership and relationship in the local community, promote use of LEED tools as benchmarks, manage general services for the members of the chapter and protect member benefits. As design professional, I would also forge energy efficient and sustainable building designs in the local community by promoting renewable energy sources and effective and affordable innovative technologies.
